LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Lincoln University women's soccer team kicks off the 2021 campaign with a home contest against Bloomfield College 3 p.m. Thursday at the LU Auxiliary Fields.
TEAMS: The game marks the season opener for both teams. Neither team touched the pitch last season. Lincoln is coming off a 1-14 season, while Bloomfield finished the 2019 season at 1-16.
PLAYERS: Lincoln returns 90 percent of its goal-scoring and 88 percent of its total offensive production with the return of seniors Kenya Davis (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo) and Tamara Evans (Clayton, Del./Smyrna). Two other seniors, Megan Dakwa (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) and Sarata Bello (Sagamu, Nigeria/Remo Methodist), will add some leadership and experience to an otherwise youthful side.
The Lions must replace a three-year starter in goal following the graduation of Lena Rodriguez. Freshmen Saige Samuels (Laurel, Md. /Paint Branch) and MacKienzee Rasheed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) are competing with Dakwa for the minutes in between the pipes.
Freshman Parker Moss (Elmira, N.Y. /Elmira) will be looked upon to boost the teams' scoring.
Bloomfield returns two players that scored goals for the Bears two seasons ago. Junior Breeyana Jivraj and junior Glory Amalaha scored two goals each in 2019. Jivraj, a defender, did her damage on 13 shots, while Amalaha led the team with 30 shots – 21 of which were on frame.
SERIES HISTORY: Lincoln is 1-9 against Bloomfield in the past 10 meetings. The Lions' only victory was via a 3-2 score in 2013.
