LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its postseason superlatives, and the Lincoln University women's basketball team has two representatives, the conference announced today (Monday, March 21, 2022).
Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) was named the 2022 Food Lion CIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year, marking the second consecutive season a Lincoln University women's basketball player has picked up the CIAA honor. She becomes the fifth LU student-athlete – third this season – to earn Player of the Year honors from the conference.
"What a phenomenal honor for a phenomenal student-athlete," said Lincoln University Women's Head Basketball Coach Janice Washington. "Bry has really worked to become the consistent two-way player that she is. Her commitment to excellence remains steadfast and I look forward to seeing her performance during the upcoming CIAA Tournament."
She was also named as an All-CIAA backcourt honoree and was joined by senior Kryshell Gordy (Chester, Pa./Ursuline Academy (Del.)) – who earned frontcourt honors from the CIAA.
Brown leads the conference with 16.9 points per game while making league-best 2.4 three-pointers per game on a league-high 34.9 percentage. She has led the team in scoring 16 times this season and was a three-time CIAA Player of the Week honoree.
She is currently second on the team with 36 steals, third with 35 assists, and fourth with 5.4 rebounds.
Gordy is one of the top shot blockers in the league with 21 rejections while finishing ninth in the league in rebounding.
"Kryshell is a fantastic example of a gifted student and talented athlete," said Washington. "She has really earned respect in the league on both sides of the ball. I'm excited for her and what's to come."
Lincoln claimed the CIAA Northern Division and the top seed in the upcoming tournament. The Lions will the court 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to face with the winner of Monday's Winston-Salem State/St. Augustine's game.
