Tonnia M. Harry, who has a perfect 4.0 GPA, has received round-trip tickets plus $2,000 for her studies.
Tonnia M. Harry, a Lincoln University junior majoring in business and French with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA), has been selected by an on-line company in a national contest to study this spring in Nice, France. The company, StudyAbroad.com, has provided Harry with her round-trip airline tickets to France and has applied $2,000 to pay for her tuition and expenses for studying at the International School of Business in Nice. She departs at the end of January 2005.p
Harry, a perennial Dean's List student who has always achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA in her courses at Lincoln, was selected recently from among thousands of contestants at other colleges and universities in the United States. Contestants had to indicate in the on-line contest that they wanted to supplement their higher education by studying abroad. Harry had applied last September.
"I won because I am blessed," Harry said, modestly. "This is a great educational opportunity for me. Lincoln is providing me with an outstanding education."
In France, Harry will take courses in business strategy, financial management, international management, marketing research as well as French. After her graduation from Lincoln in 2006, she plans to pursue a master's degree, also in business. She added that her parents and family back home in Trinidad and Tobago, were also ecstatic about her opportunity to study abroad in France.
"I am encouraging all of my classmates to take advantage of study-abroad opportunities," she said.
Harry will be studying in France through Truman State University's (in Kirksville, MO) program in France. Truman State and Lincoln University are members of the College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS). The consortium is a partnership of two- and four-year small, large, U.S. and foreign public and private colleges and universities that encompasses the broad spectrum of international higher education. CCIS members sponsor a variety of programs, notably study-abroad programs.
Lincoln sponsors two study-abroad programs: one in Japan and another in the Czech Republic.
