Lincoln University, Pa. – Fans cheered in admiration on yesterday as the Lincoln University Concert Choir performed the national anthem at the Philadelphia Phillies baseball game on April 9 against the Cincinnati Reds.
“It was an amazing experience,” said a Lincoln staff member who watched the performance from the stands, “they did an astounding job.”
It was the first time the 48-member choir performed the national anthem for a national sports team.
“It was very exciting for all of us,” said Camilla Horne, the director of choral activities at Lincoln.
In October, Horne recorded the choir performing the national anthem and submitted the video to the Phillies. In wasn’t until February that the choir was informed that they had been chosen to perform.
In a section designated for Lincoln supporters, many Lincoln University students and staff supported the choir and then watched the game; for Lincoln supporters, tickets were also available to the public for pre-purchase.
"It was an honor and privilege to see them first hand," said Lincoln's Head Baseball Coach Anthony Plá. "I couldn’t have been more proud of how they looked and sounded representing the dear old Orange and Blue."
Horne said that she hopes the choir will have more opportunities to perform on a national stage.
