LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Facebook has chosen Lincoln University as one of only 30 universities nationwide to be part of the launch of Facebook Campus, a college-only space designed to help students connect with classmates over shared interests.
“The Facebook Campus platform aligns with Lincoln’s mission to tell the Lincoln story and to build a culture that supports student success--both academically and socially,” said Dr. Brenda A. Allen, president of Lincoln University.
“Our students will be among the first in the nation to test a platform that empowers them to bridge curricular and co-curricular activities and build community. Facebook Campus will allow students to be more engaged with research, internship, service learning, and career opportunities and to develop a peer network that could last far beyond graduation.”
Miss Lincoln University Brianna Blake, a biochemistry and molecular biology senior from Prince George’s County, Maryland, called Facebook’s selection of Lincoln an “honor.”
“This will truly elevate the platform our students have to network. For this is an opportunity to connect when we must be distant and to unite in the midst of adversity.”
From now until September 17, select students at Lincoln will have access including Student Government Association, student organization presidents, the royal court, and first-year students. On September 17 every student with a Lincoln email address will have access. Facebook plans to launch Campus to additional universities at a later date.
Niare Galvez, a senior from Boston majoring in political science, said Facebook and Lincoln University are both entities that “innovatively connect thousands of different individuals through certain interests, experiences, and opportunities.”
“I am excited to expand upon opportunities and engage with students from all over."
This year, students across the country are facing new challenges as some campuses shift to partial or full-time remote learning, so it’s more important than ever to find a way to stay connected to college life. College is a time for making new friends, finding people who share similar interests, and discovering new opportunities to connect – from clubs to study groups, sports, and more. Facebook Campus makes it easy to find and start conversations within the Lincoln student community.
Facebook Campus is a dedicated section of the Facebook app designed for students, with a Campus profile that’s different from their main Facebook profile. Students create a Campus profile by using their Lincoln email and graduation year. Other information such as their major, classes, hometown, and minor is optional. Once a Campus profile is set up, students can discover Groups and Events unique to their school, and connect with classmates who share similar interests. When content is shared on Campus, only people within Campus will see it.
Key Features
- Campus-only News Feed: Campus is a college email-verified space designed for students to get updates from classmates, groups, and events in a college-specific feed. Students can create study groups, plan virtual concerts, or ask for advice with college-only Groups and Events.
- Campus directory: College is about finding your people, so we created a classmate directory to make it easy to find and meet new people. Like in the early days when Facebook was a college-only network, students can find classmates by class, major, year, and more.
- New ways to chat: Campus Chats are real-time chat rooms. Students can create chat rooms for their residence halls, clubs, or any other groups they’re part of within Campus.
Facebook said they built Campus to be safe, inclusive, and optional. Learn more about how privacy and security are at the core of this product, and how we’re giving people control over their Campus experience.
