LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - An offensive onslaught and good pitching enabled the Lincoln University baseball team to extend its winning to four games as the Lions opened their East Coast Conference three-game series against the College of Staten Island with a convincing 15-6 victory Friday at the LU Baseball Field.
It was the first meeting between the two teams.
Lincoln scored in seven of its eight turns at the plate and limited Dolphin bats to just one earned run.
Junior pitcher Trevon Sutton (Chicago, Ill./Harlan Community Academy), 2-2, (Chicago, Ill./Harlan Community Academy) won his second straight start, allowing five runs – just one earned – on five hits over six innings. He added seven strikeouts and three walks in the outing.
Every player got a hit as the team pounded out 18 knocks and seven of the eight starters contributed an RBI.
Freshman Hilman Truss (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) tallied his third multi-hit outing over the course of four games. He recorded a career-high four hits, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple, and an RBI.
Five other players finished with a pair of hits. Senior Kashif Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker Academy) (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker Academy) was 2-for-5 with a double, home run, two runs scored, and two RBI, while freshman Alex Jones (Bear Del./Appoquinimink) (Bear, Del./ Appoquinimink) was 2-for-5 with a run scored and a team-high three RBI.
Sophomore Willie Hines (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (Bowie, Md./Bowie) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, senior Max Guadalupe (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telecommunication Arts) (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telecommunications Arts) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a double. In continuing in the hit parade, senior Elias Beltre (New York, N.Y./LAM International School) (New York, N.Y./LAM International School) was 2-for-6 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a home run.
Lincoln (4-6 overall, 4-0 ECC) continues its three-game series with CSI with doubleheader. The nine-inning game starts at noon, followed by a seven-inning contest.
