LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – For the second time this season, a Lincoln University baseball player has earned weekly recognition for the East Coast Conference as freshman Hilman Truss (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) was named ECC Rookie of the Year, the league announced today (April 19, 2021).
Truss (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) has been one of the top sluggers in the Lions' lineup this season. He slashed .563/.875/.611 over the course of four games with a double, triple and eight RBI. The third baseman was especially dangerous with runners in scoring position, hitting .800 in the run-scoring opportunities.
"Hilman has been a clutch performer for us in the early parts of the season," said Lincoln University Head Baseball Coach Anthony Pla. "It's nice to see him gain recognition for his work in between the lines."
It marks the second time this season, and ever, a LU player earned the award. Freshman Alex Jones (Bear Del./Appoquinimink) picked up the honors two weeks ago.
In addition to Truss, junior shortstop Willie Hines (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (Bowie, Md./Bowie) earned a place on the ECC Honor Roll. He is the fourth player to be added to the league's performance honor roll. Hines slashed .429/.429/.619 with seven runs scored and three RBI.
Lincoln (4-8 overall, 4-2 ECC) kicks off a three-game series with Queen 3:30 p.m. Friday with a nine-inning game.
