LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - Lincoln University Director of Athletics and Recreational Services Harry Stinson III continues to build a legacy and culture of service as highlighted by his recent assignments.
In the past months, Stinson has been named as the chairperson of the CIAA Management Council and vice-chairperson of the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interest Committee (MOIC). Additionally, he was named to the Athletic Advisory Board of Team Impact and co-founded Black Sports Professionals Philadelphia.
Stinson is also the vice president of BSP Philadelphia.
"Service is one of my core values and I am excited to be in a position to influence the athletic enterprise in this way," said Stinson. "My intention is not to see how many committees I can serve on, rather it is to serve and impact our enterprise from within. Being an advocate for more minorities within athletic administration begins with serving and providing a voice through exposure. These platforms allow for that voice to be shared and to impact the industry. I'm happy to be a bridge-builder for others and carry the torch for those who paved the way for me."
Stinson has just completed his fourth season leading the Lincoln University athletic department. He has brought some tremendous changes and the program has made huge strides with him at the helm.
Academics have always been at the forefront for Stinson, and the departmental grade point average has increased from 2.66 to 3.08, the highest in the school's Division II era. Additionally, the percentage of student-athletes with a 3.0 cumulative GPA has gone from 45 percent to 59 percent.
Lincoln has increased its athletic operational budget by 20 percent and its scholarship budget by 30 percent. Meanwhile, he oversaw the increase of staffing by seven individuals inclusive of Academic Coordinator, Equipment Manager, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Director of Sports Operations, and Assistant AD/Wellness & Recreational Services.
In the ever-changing landscape of college athletics, Stinson has continued to renovate and improve the Lincoln athletic facilities. Renovation projects including men's and women's basketball locker rooms, the resurfacing of the track and field surface, football field, outdoor basketball courts, resurfacing of the main gym and auxiliary gym surfaces, and complete renovation of the athletic facility including administrative and coaches' offices, locker rooms, training areas and athletic indoor practice areas for all teams. The largest project will be the $30 million renovations of Manuel Rivero Gymnasium that is slated to be completed in 2024.
He is currently serving on the NCAA Division II Management Council, the NCAA Division II Enforcement and Infractions Task Force, the NCAA Board of Governors Ad Hoc Committee on Sports Wagering, the NCAA Eligibility Center Advisory Committee, the Lincoln University Master Planning committee, the Lincoln University Strategic Planning Committee and the Lincoln University Compliance Committee.
