Volleyball drops home opener

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Lincoln University volleyball team opened the home portion of its schedule with a straight-set loss to Shepherd University Friday, 25-10, 25-9, 25-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions were hanging tough in the first set but got caught in a rotation that enabled Shepherd to rattle off 14 consecutive points to turn an 11-10 game into a 25-10 final.
  • Another extended run, this one of the 13-1 variety, gave Shepherd the breathing room needed for the 25-9 win.
  • Shepherd tallied eight of the final 10 points to claim the third set.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Lincoln finished with 14 kills on 63 attempts with 26 errors.
  • Freshman Haley Loper (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Technical) (Middletown, Del.) led the team with five kills on 22 attempts with seven errors, while junior Kaiya Lewis (Queens, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) (Queens, N.Y.) added four kills on 10 attempts with three errors.
  • Lewis was also a force at the next with two block assists and a solo block, while freshman Erinn Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) (Romulus, Mich.) added a solo block and block assist.
  • Freshman Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) (Middletown, Del.) finished with a team-high seven assists, and junior Tatyana Charles (Easton, Pa./Eastern Area) (Easton, Pa.) recorded six assists.
  • Seven different players tallied a dig with Lumpkin and freshman Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich. ) (Detroit, Mich.) tabulating three each.

  • Lincoln (0-2) travels to Wilmington, Del to face Goldey-Beacom in non-conference action.
