Cathcart named CIAA Linebacker of the Week

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – For the first time this season, a Lincoln University student-athlete has earned weekly honors from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the league announced today (Monday, October 18, 2021).

Junior linebacker Devon Cathcart (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) was named the CIAA Linebacker of the Week after helping lead the Lions to the 17-14 Homecoming victory over Elizabeth City State University Saturday. He finished with eight total tackles, including as assisted tackle for loss, and a pass breakup as Lincoln limited the Vikings to 176 yards of total offense and only 23 yards rushing.

"I couldn't be more proud of a young man that has been an excellent example of true leadership and what it takes to be a Lincoln Lion," said Lincoln University head football coach Josh Dean. "Cathcart puts in the work in the film room and the practice field, which is why he has had the individual success on the football field this season."

Cathcart is currently fifth in the CIAA, averaging 7.4 tackles per game.

This is the first football player since Hunter Terrell (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) and Solomon Bassett earned weekly honors from the conference in October 2019.

Lincoln returns to the gridiron 1 p.m. Saturday, traveling to Virginia State in CIAA action.
