LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University men's cross country team was tied for ninth in the 10-team Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships Thursday at Green Hill Park, Salem, Va.
"Great job to our men and women who compete today," said Lincoln University cross country coach Roland Whiting. "They embraced some early season challenges to make it to the CIAA championships. While I am not satisfied with our overall team standings at the championships, I'm very proud of their consistent efforts to improve on their performances, and coming together to compete well as a team. We will build on our strength and look forward to the future."
Virginia State claimed the 2021 cross country title, followed by Bowie State, Shaw, Livingstone, Virginia Union, Fayetteville State, Claflin, Elizabeth City State, Lincoln, and Johnson C. Smith.
For the fourth meet this season, freshman Clayton McLaren (Brockton, Mass./Brimmer and May) was the first Lincoln runner to complete the 8K course. The harrier finished 26th with a time of 32:46.08. It was his best 8K time of the season by more than two minutes.
Freshman Brandon Frierson (Philadelphia, Pa./Olney Charter) was the next LU runner to finish the course, placing 40th with the time of 35:32.2. Junior Cory Muzon was next with a 50th place finish in the time of 38:33.5. Despite running the course with an injury, freshman Lamar Clayton finish the distance to ensure Lincoln posted a team score. Clayton was 51st in 38:37.9, and sophomore Spencer Seide (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) finished the team scoring with a 55th place finish in a time of 40:30.4.
