LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Four Lincoln University football players earned postseason all-conference recognition from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the league announced today (November 10, 2021).
Freshman punter Achille Laudet (Stillwater, Minn. /Stillwater) was named the Special Team Player of the Year and was named to the first team. Laudet led the CIAA in punting, and is 11th nationally, averaging 42.2 yards per kick. His 10 punts over 50 yards are almost twice as many as any other punter in the conference.
"I'm not surprised at all that Achilles Laudet has won Special Teams Player of the Year," said Lincoln University head football coach Josh Dean. "AJ has been a consistent weapon for us in the kicking game. Not only is he atop the conference standings in punting, but he is also a leader in Division II. Seeing some of our players receiving recognition for their play lets me know that our program is on the right path and the future is bright here at Lincoln.
Senior Devon Cathcart (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) picked up first-team linebacker honors, while freshman Rontay Dunbar (Brooklyn, N.Y. /Freedom) earned second-team honors as a defensive back. Dunbar was joined by freshman Mahkai Beasley on the All-Rookie team.
"I am extremely proud of the news of several of our players receiving All-Conference Awards," said Dean. "Devon Cathcart (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) has been a leader within our program for my tenure here and it has been a pleasure to watch him elevate his play to be the best in the CIAA. Every Saturday he has been one of the best football players on the field regardless of who our opponent has been.
"Rontay Dunbar (Brooklyn, N.Y. /Freedom) is another player that has been a catalyst of our defensive unit," Dean continued. "Throughout the season I have not seen a better defensive back with the timeliness of his playmaking ability. When a turnover was desperately needed you would see Dunbar making a play. I have also been excited to see the growth and spark that Mekhai Beasley has provided with his play as a freshman. Towards the end of the season, he elevated his play and excited for his future."
Cathcart has been amongst the league leaders in tackling all season long. His 78 tackles are second in the CIAA. He is in the Top 15 in tackles for loss and sacks. Cathcart added five quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, and an interception.
Dunbar proved to be a shutdown corner for the Lions. He leads the CIAA, and is tenth nationally, in passes defended with 12 pass breakups and three interceptions. Beasley finished the season with 28 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Lincoln finished the season 1-9 overall, 1-6 in the CIAA.
