Career day for Camper in win

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Two Lincoln University players tallied double-doubles as the Lions opened the 2021-22 campaign with an 82-74 victory over host Kutztown Friday in the second game of the CIAA/PSAC Challenge.

Senior Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) scored a career-high 26 with 13 points for his fourth career double-double, while junior Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) finished with 16 points and 10 boards for his 10th career double-double. Thanks to Camper, Lincoln held a robust advantage in the paint – outscoring the Golden Bears, 42-16.

After falling behind by a game-high nine points thanks to a Golden Bears' 9-0 spurt, Lincoln turned up the defensive pressure to flip the momentum into its favor. The Lions forced five turnovers and held Kutztown to 2-of-11 shooting over the final 6:42 of the first half, turning a nine-point deficit into a four-point halftime lead.

The Golden Bears pulled even four different times early in the second half, but couldn't ever take the lead. Once the game was tied for a final time at 50, Lincoln appeared to seize control and threatened to pull away with a 10-point lead with 6:19 remaining.

Over the next four minutes, Kutztown proved to have one last run in them. The Golden Bears trimmed their deficit to just one possession at three points.

However, junior Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) stemmed the tide with a three-pointer and the Lions sealed the contest by going 4-of-5 from the foul line.

Junior Korey Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) added 16 points with three rebounds, four assists and two steals, while freshman Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J. /University) dropped 12 points in his collegiate debut.

Lincoln (1-0) returns to the court 5 p.m. Saturday, playing West Chester at the CIAA/PSAC Challenge.
