WBB Preview: West Chester

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - Lincoln University women's basketball continues its stretch of five consecutive home games to start the season as the Lions welcome West Chester to Manuel Rivero 6 p.m. Wednesday.

SERIES HISTORY
Despite winning two of the last three meetings, Lincoln trails in the series, 5-2. This marks just the second meeting at Manuel Rivero as the first five games were in West Chester.

ALL-CIAA
Senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) was named preseason All-CIAA as a backcourt selection in the conference vote of head coaches and sports information personnel. She is coming off an abbreviated season in which she led the Lions in scoring. 

PRESEASON POLL
Lincoln was picked to finish second in the conference's North Division. Bowie State was picked to win the division, followed by Lincoln, Virginia Union, Elizabeth City State, Virginia State, and Shaw. Fayetteville State was the preseason favorite in the South Division, followed by Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem State, Livingstone, Saint Augustine's, and Claflin. 

ALL-CLASSIC TEAM
Senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) was named to the CIAA/PSAC Challenge All-Classic team after averaging 14.0 points and 6.5 rebounds. She did most of her damage at the free throw line, where she was 18-of-19 (94.7 percent). 

WELCOME BACK
After sitting out last season, senior Shantel Cheeks (Washington D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy (Harcum College)) returned to the Lincoln roster and has made an immediate impact for the Lions. She is tied for second on the team with 9.5 points per game. Her length on the top of Lincoln's full-court press and half-court zones have been key to the LU defense. 

HITTING THE GLASS
Lincoln has gained extra possessions by pulling down 31 offensive rebounds in two games, besting its opponents, 31-20. The extra opportunities have led to 30 second-chance points. Senior Kryshell Gordy (Chester, Pa./Ursuline Academy (Del.)) leads the team with six offensive boards, followed by junior Jeana Weatherspoon (Columbus, Ohio/Northland) and freshman De'aisjah Somerville (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) with five each. 

FREE THROWS
The duo of Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and Shantel Cheeks (Washington D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy (Harcum College)) have combined to make 30 of the team's 37 free throws and is shooting 85.7 percent from the charity stripe. The rest of the team is 7-of-33 (21.2 percent) from the line.
