LINCOLN UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR ESTABLISHES ENDOWMENT FUND

Dr. Goro NagaseLINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ Dr. Goro Nagase, professor of mathematics at Lincoln University, has established an endowment to provide scholarship to students majoring in mathematics and computer science.  The endowment bears his name.

According to Dr. Nagase, the endowment has reached its goal of $25,000 of which he donated $20,000.  He hopes the endowment will double with matching funds.

LINCOLN RECEIVES $209 THOUSAND GRANT FROM NSF FOR ECOLOGICAL RESEARCH

Nelson has announced that Lincoln University has been awarded a five-year $209,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to introduce African American students to ecological research and to encourage them to pursue graduate studies through a mentoring program.

PRESIDENT IVORY NELSON CHALLENGES STUDENTS TO DO THEIR BEST AT UNIVERSITY CONVOCATION

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ In his address to faculty, staff and students at University Convocation, President Ivory V. Nelson affirmed, “The state of the university is well.” 

Noting the accomplishments of the faculty and the renovations and new construction that have taken place or under way to make the campus more student-friendly, Dr. Nelson told the students that they are attending the university during a historic period of growth and development.

CONEY ELECTED TO LINCOLN UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ President Ivory V. Nelson has announced the appointment of Lester N. Coney to the Board of Trustees of Lincoln University.

Coney, an accomplished corporate business development leader, will serve a four-year term. He is executive vice president and senior managing director of Mesirow Financial, Chicago’s most diversified financial services firm.

LINCOLN GETS HIGH MARKS FROM PRESIDENT IVORY NELSON IN STATE OF THE UNIVERSITY ADDRESS AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ “Lincoln University is in excellent shape,” declared President Ivory V. Nelson at the annual Faculty-Directors Conference at Wyncote Golf Club on Thursday.

President Nelson made the comment in his State of the University address at the event that signals the start of a new academic year. Lincoln begins its one hundred and fifty third academic year on August 22.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY TO HOST HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY; ACTRESS SHERYL LEE RALPH ALSO SLATED TO PERFORM

Sheryl Lee RalphLINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~Lincoln University will host an HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Monday, August 20 at The Thurgood Marshall Living Learning Center  at 10 a.m. followed in the evening by Tony winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, who will perform her one-woman show “Sometimes I Cry” at 7 in Manuel Rivero Hall.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY TO HOST FULBRIGHT SUMMER PRE-ACADEMIC PROGRAM

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ Lincoln University will host 30 graduate students coming to the United States for two weeks for further education as part of this year’s Fulbright Pre-Academic Summer Program.  The students will arrive at Lincoln on July 22.

The students assigned to Lincoln will be involved in a program that focuses on English language and refinement of academic skills, Fulbright program goals, orientation to U.S. culture, survival skills for graduate students, and cross-cultural orientation.

SMITH, GORDON ELECTED TO BOARD OF TRUSTEES

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ Tehma H. Smith `00 has been elected and the Honorable Levan Gordon `58 re-elected to serve on the Lincoln University Board of Trustees as alumni representatives.  Their four-year term ends in 2011.

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY AMONG INSTITUTIONS RECEIVING $4.2 MILLION GRANT TO STUDY COLORECTAL CANCER IN AFRICAN AMERICANS

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ President Ivory V. Nelson has announced that Lincoln University, in partnership with Pennsylvania State College of Medicine, Lehigh Valley Hospital and Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, has been awarded a grant of $4.2 million over a four-year period to participate in an investigation of colorectal cancer in northeast Pennsylvania.

The grant has been awarded in response to the Pennsylvania Department of Health RFA for Collaborative Research on Vaccine Development or Gene-Environment Interactions. Lincoln will receive $471,966 over the project period.
