Institutional Research

The primary focus of Institutional Research is the collection of data (from both internal and external sources), and the analysis, distribution, and presentation of this information for use in planning, decision-making, and policy formulation at Lincoln University.

Institutional Research:
 
  • Ensures the accuracy of vital University statistics;
  • Reports data to a broad spectrum of information consumers;
  • Produce annual University Fact Book via interactive dashboards;
  • Responds to diverse internal requests to support decision-making and planning;
  • Coordinates Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) surveys, Middle States Commission on Higher Education Annual Institutional Update, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania annual SNYDER Report, and additional third-party surveys and reports;
  • Reports retention and graduation rate studies, alumni surveys, enrollment projections, and various benchmark studies.

Compliance Reporting

Lincoln University and the other state-related institutions (Penn State University, Temple University, and the University of Pittsburgh) must abide by a wide range of state and federal reporting requirements. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania provides each university with annual, non-preferred financial appropriations in exchange for offering tuition discounts to students who are residents of Pennsylvania.

Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)

IPEDS is a system of interrelated surveys conducted annually by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). IPEDS gathers information from every college, university, and technical and vocational institution that participates in the federal student financial aid programs. The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, requires that institutions that participate in federal student aid programs report data on enrollments, program completions, graduation rates, faculty and staff, finances, institutional prices, and student financial aid. These data are made available to students and parents through the College Navigator college search Web site and to researchers and others through the IPEDS Data Center.

Middle States Commission on Higher Education - Annual Institutional Profile

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidacy status) activities for institutions of higher education that wish to participate in federal Title IV student loan programs in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, including distance education and correspondence education programs offered at those institutions.

The Commission is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations, and resources. It examines each institution as a whole, rather than specific programs within institutions.

PA State Appropriations for State-Related Universities

Lincoln University receives, as a state-related university in Pennsylvania, an annual appropriation. Hence, Lincoln University should provide official reports to summarize various financial and instructional metrics.

The Snyder Report

The Public School Code Amendments (Act 61 of 2008) set forth requirements for state-related institutions (Penn State University, Temple University, Lincoln University, and University of Pittsburgh) to submit “Instructional Output and Faculty Salary Costs of the State-related and State-owned Universities” data.  This report, known as the Snyder Report, is submitted to the Pennsylvania General Assembly, as required by the annual appropriation acts for the State-related universities.
