LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ President Ivory V. Nelson has announced the appointment of Lester N. Coney to the Board of Trustees of Lincoln University.
Coney, an accomplished corporate business development leader, will serve a four-year term. He is executive vice president and senior managing director of Mesirow Financial, Chicago’s most diversified financial services firm.
Coney focuses on originating and nurturing new business opportunities as well as expanding and maintaining client relationships across all lines of its business, including investment management, investment services, insurance, investment banking, consulting and real estate.
A graduate of George Williams University, Coney has received numerous awards, including recognition for leadership in the arts by the Arts & Business Council of Chicago. He has been named among the Top 50 Minorities in Business by Crain’s Chicago Business, recognized by the 100 Black Men and named one of Chicago’s Top Minority Executives by the Chicago United Business Leaders of Color.
Coney serves as chairman of the board of the Goodman Theater, chairman of the board of City Year of Chicago and is a trustee of the Auditorium Theater Council. His community involvement also includes an affiliation with Kohl’s Children’s Museum and the DuSable Museum of African American Art History, where he serves as a trustee.
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is a premier, historically Black University that combines the best elements of a liberal arts and sciences-based undergraduate core curriculum and selected graduate programs to meet the needs of those living in a highly technological and global society. The University is nationally recognized as a major producer of African Americans with undergraduate degrees in the physical sciences (biology, chemistry and physics); computer and informational sciences; biological and life sciences. Lincoln has an enrollment of 2,423 undergraduate and graduate students.
