Lincoln Suffers 49-3 Loss on Senior Day To Chowan

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa – Sophomore Brett Arkelian (Clovis, CA)made a 31-yard field goal against the Hawks, but Chowan downed Lincoln 49-3, in the season finale on Saturday, November 7th at LU Stadium.
 
Lincoln fell behind by two touchdowns quickly after the first two offensive drives by Chowan. On the Lions final possession of the first quarter they put together a productive drive that scored the offense some much needed points. QuarterbackEdward McKenzie (Paterson, NJ/Lackwanna College) found wide receiver Brandon Rowe (Harlem, NY/Hudson Valley CC)for a 37-yard pass reception setting up LU in the Hawks territory. After a Chowan penalty Lincoln faced first down from the CU 20-yard line. The Lions attempted several rushes and then set up their special teams for a 31-yard field goal attempt at the beginning of the second quarter.
 
LU kicker Brett Arkelian (Clovis, CA) converted on his eighth made field goal of the season from 31-yards out making the game 21-3 at the 12:29 mark in the quarter. Arkelian is the LU single-season record holder for made field goals passing Kyle Jaski's six made in 2012.
 
Chowan started with three touchdowns in the first quarter and sealed the victory with four touchdowns in the third quarter.
 
Running back Stephen Scott (Baltimore, MD/Bethel College) collected 51 rushing yards on 26 carries against Chowan.Edward McKenzie (Paterson, NJ/Lackwanna College) added 24 rushing yards while quarterback Jacob Luke (Starke, FL/Bradford HS) had 16 yards rushing. Lincoln completed 8-of-25 pass attempts led by Edward McKenzie (Paterson, NJ/Lackwanna College). McKenzie threw for 114 total yards and found four receivers. Brandon Rowe (Harlem, NY/Hudson Valley CC) caught a team-high three passes for a career-best 72 yards. Bradley Martin (Philadelphia, PA/Vermillion CC) had two catches for 28 yards and Rae'Quan Williams (Philadephia, PA/West Catholic HS) also had two catches for 12 yards.
 
In addition to his made field goal, Brett Arkelian (Clovis, CA) finished with a career-best ten punts for 364 total yards. He averaged 36.4 yards per punt, had a long of 52 yards, and downed one punt inside the Chowan 20-yard line.
 
Defensively, Brion Robinson (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS) had a game-high nine tackles including seven solo stops. He became the all-time leader at Lincoln in solo tackles after making seven against the Hawks. He passes Brandon McElwee's 229 total solo tackles record set back in 2011.
 
Defensive lineman Stephen Lloyd (Bowie, MD/Meade HS) finished with four solo tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Defensive back Dezman Ellis (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic HS) recorded his first interception of the season and also posted four tackles. Defensive lineman Tyrell Montgomery (Neptune Township, NJ/Neptune HS) and D'Andre Parker(Williamsburg, VA/Lackawanna College) both recorded sacks on the Chowan quarterback while Dequann Pittman(Washington, DC/Overlea HS) forced a fumble.
 
The Lions close out the 2015 season with an overall record of 3-7 while going 1-6 in CIAA play. Chowan improves to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in CIAA play. 15 football seniors played in their final home game at LU Stadium against the Hawks. Coach Pickens and the LU staff honored Brion Robinson (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook HS), Brandon Rowe (Harlem, NY/Hudson Valley CC), Demario Glenn (Oakland, CA/Laney College), Kenneth Faulcon (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen HS), Jaleel Reddick(Newark, NJ/Morgan State University), Edward McKenzie (Paterson, NJ/Lackwanna College), Bradley Martin (Philadelphia, PA/Vermillion CC), James Thomas (Los Angeles, CA/Oaks Christian Academy), Nicholas Blackmon (Philadelphia, PA/Community College of Philadelphia), David Miller (Hiram, GA), Tyreese Green (Philadephia, PA/Howard HS), Jonathan Rijo (Quenns, NY/Bethany College), Marcus Barboza (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic HS), Isaiah White (Aberdeen, MD/Harford Technical HS), and Kwame Miller (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown HS).
