LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ The Center of Excellence known as the Business and Information Technology at Lincoln University is continuing its partnership with American College Dublin (ACD) in Ireland to strengthen its curriculum.
The Business and Information Technology Department has added a new course to the summer 2009 roster. Typically the study abroad program offers the BIT 459 Senior Seminar (Strategic Management), under the instruction of Dr. Richards, but the 2009 session is now offering International Economics, which will be delivered by an American College Dublin professor.
The department forged this partnership in 2007, when twelve African American Lincoln students accompanied Dr. Oswald Richards, chair of the department, to Dublin, Ireland. Because of the international location of the College, the instruction included a heavy dose of globalism; internationalism; multinational, global and transnational enterprises within a dynamic and ever-expanding international technology; economic and financial interconnectedness; and strategic context. The Senior Seminar was made up of a total of 22 students. The additional ten Caucasian students hailed from many locations in the USA.
“It was gratifying to behold the comparative performance of Lincoln University business students against their peers from better-known and financially rich academic institutions,” said Richards. “On average, our students outperformed their peers, with two of the students, Matthew Jones and Maurice Blakely, securing the highest grades on their respective tests.”
ACD worked diligently to provide students with first-rate accommodations and an enriching cultural experience. The students visited a working Irish farm out in the beautiful countryside, hobnobbed with the animals, visited the peat bogs, rehearsed Irish songs and dances, and learned to mix their personal loaf of Irish soda bread. Students also visited the Irish National Art Gallery and other places of historical interest.
A number of students traveled to France and Holland during their weekends.
June 6, 2008 marked the second year commitment to the LU/ACD partnership. Eleven Business and Information Technology students, under the supervision of Dr. Oswald Richards, followed the same four week regimen of studies and expeditions.
