LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ Lincoln University assistant professor Dr. York Williams, author and researcher in the areas of gifted and special education and urban school choice, will deliver the keynote address when the university holds its Martin Luther King Jr. program on Thursday, January 24 at 4 p.m. in Mary Dod Brown Chapel.
The Martin Luther King Jr. program is an annual university event held to honor the memory of the slain civil rights leader.
Dr. Williams, in his first year on the Lincoln University faculty, serves as assistant professor of elementary and special education and director of the teaching learning enhancement. Before joining the faculty, Dr. Williams was a public school teacher for over 15 years and worked as an administrator and supervisor of special and gifted education programs. His additional interests include the intersection of urban school violence and achievement amongst African American males through the lens of social and juvenile justice.
He will soon complete two forthcoming books titled, “Adjudication, Incarceration and then Probation; The Dilemmas of African American males with special needs” and “A Witness for the DA: Wrongful Prosecution in Commonwealth v. Williams and implications for the culture of ‘snitching.’ ”
Dr. Williams’ work has been recognized by variousprofessional organizations, including American Education Research Association (AERA) and Family Involvement Network of Educators (FINE).
He is the recipient of the 2007 Montclair Who’s Who in Collegiate Faculty Award, Temple Education Research Award (TERA), The Temple University Benjamin Verdile Alumni Association Award, and Whose Who Among America’s Public School Teachers Award.
Dr. Williams has written over two dozen research papers and articles and presented them at numerous conferences and workshops nationwide.
