LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ President Ivory V. Nelson has announced that Verizon executive Andrea L. Custis has been re-elected to the Lincoln University Board of Trustees. Custis’s four-year term ends in 2011.
First elected to the Lincoln University board in 2003, Custis is currently the vice president for sales and marketing for Verizon Communications New Jersey region, which provides bundled telecommunications and high-speed Internet services to multi-dwellings nationwide.
“We are pleased that Andrea will continue to serve on our board,” said President Nelson. “Her insight will be invaluable to our deliberations and strategies that will enable us to achieve excellence in all that we do at Lincoln University.”
Custis joined Bell of Pennsylvania in 1977 as a management trainee and advanced through position of increasing responsibility, including director level assignments in human resources, sales and operations.
She has received numerous awards, including a citation from the NAACP for her tireless efforts in the African American community. She has served on many boards of directors, including the Urban League of Philadelphia, Delaware Valley Child Care Council, Inroads, Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and New York Chamber of Commerce.
Custis has been recognized as one of the 25 most influential black women in business by the Network Journal, a minority owned business journal. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University and a master’s from Pennsylvania State University.
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is a premier, historically Black University that combines the best elements of a liberal arts and sciences-based undergraduate core curriculum and selected graduate programs to meet the needs of those living in a highly technological and global society. The University is nationally recognized as a major producer of African Americans with undergraduate degrees in the physical sciences (biology, chemistry and physics); computer and informational sciences; biological and life sciences. Lincoln has an enrollment of 2,423 undergraduate and graduate students.
