LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ Tehma H. Smith `00 has been elected and the Honorable Levan Gordon `58 re-elected to serve on the Lincoln University Board of Trustees as alumni representatives. Their four-year term ends in 2011.
Smith, of Mont Clare, Pa., is a systems engineer at Lockheed Martin and had a stellar athletic career at Lincoln. During her basketball career, she scored over 1,500 points and became the first female in school history to have her number retired. She also served as treasurer of the Student Government Association and was inducted into a number of national honor societies.
A member of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter, Smith established the “#12 Endowment Fund” and the “#12 Restricted Fund” for the women’s basketball team to fund scholarships and assist the athletic program.
She holds master’s degrees in information science and business administration from Penn State University. She is pursuing a law degree from Temple University, aiming to specialize in corporate law with emphasis on sports and entertainment.
Meanwhile, Gordon joined the board in 2003 and has served as its parliamentarian. He is a retired judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation and a past chair of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice.
A member of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter, Gordon received the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award from TIAA CREF in 2006. He has held membership in numerous organizations, including the Philadelphia Bar Association, Barristers Association of Philadelphia, Lawyers Club of Philadelphia and World Association of Judges.
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is a premier, historically Black University that combines the best elements of a liberal arts and sciences-based undergraduate core curriculum and selected graduate programs to meet the needs of those living in a highly technological and global society. The University is nationally recognized as a major producer of African Americans with undergraduate degrees in the physical sciences (biology, chemistry and physics); computer and informational sciences; biological and life sciences. Lincoln has an enrollment of 2,423 undergraduate and graduate students.
