Blistering start fizzles in loss

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - A blistering start turned into a disappointing end as the Lincoln University men's basketball team suffered consecutive losses for the first time this season, falling to Livingstone 71-63 Wednesday in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.

Lincoln opened the game with a quick eight points, leading to a Livingstone timeout. The momentary stop in action didn't stop the Lion tsunami of scoring as Lincoln tallied 21 of the first 23 points, and led 21-2 with 12:42 remaining.

Unfortunately, the scoring barrage eventually came to an end allowing the Bears to gradually creep back into the contest.

A huge momentum swing came at the end of the first half as Lincoln missed a layup with three seconds remaining and LC connected on a buzzer-beater, so a potential 10-point lead was just six points at the break.

The Lions produced enough offense to stave off Livingstone until a 21-8 run gave them a nine-point lead. However, Lincoln had one last gasp – cutting their deficit to four points with 29 seconds remaining. But the Lions couldn't get any closer.

Junior Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) finished with his third double-double in four games with 25 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Lincoln (14-8 overall, 7-4 CIAA) returns to CIAA Northern Division action 4 p.m. Saturday, hosting Bowie State.
