Brown makes LU History

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – History has been made.

After being recognized for her accomplishments on the court, Bryanna Brown's (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) performances in the classroom and in the community are being honored as she becomes the first Lincoln University student-athlete to be named the Academic All-America Team, selected by CoSIDA.

"It's truly an honor and a blessing to be the first person to ascertain an achievement of this magnitude here at Lincoln," said Brown. "To God be the Glory for guiding me in reaching this milestone and allowing me to leave my legacy as a Lion, on and off the court."

She was the first Lincoln University women's basketball player to be named CoSIDA Academic All-District, and just the fourth Lincoln University student-athlete to earn the award. She follows in the footsteps of Tara O'Brien (2012, women's soccer), Cedar Davidson (2020, women's soccer), and Nazirah Purnell (2021) as academic honoree from CoSIDA.

"Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) continues to raise the bar, not just for Lincoln Women's Basketball players, but for all future student-athletes at Lincoln University," said Janice Washington, Lincoln University women's basketball coach. "She has shown the ability to surpass already high expectations both as a student and an athlete. The accolades that she continues to receive are a tribute to the effort she pours into everything she does. She is certainly a gifted student that understands the importance of time management and prioritizing ... two of the cornerstones of becoming a successful student."

This academic honor just added to the hardware Brown has walked away with this season. She was named the CIAA Player of the Year, CIAA Tournament MVP, and earned second-team All-Region from the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association.

Brown led the conference with 17.2 points per game while making league-best 2.5 three-pointers per game on a league-high 33.5 percentage. She has led the team in scoring 18 times this season and was a three-time CIAA Player of the Week honoree.

In the conference tournament, en route to leading the Lions to its first-ever CIAA championship, Brown averaged 22 points including a team-best 28 points in the title game.

A finance major with a 3.95 grade point average, Brown earned the CIAA Lowe's Senior CLASS award last season. She is very involved in community service, individually or with her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. She has participated in the Bethel Gospel Assembly Thanksgiving Food/Clothing Drive, Lincoln University campus cleanups, and the MLK Jr. Community Breakfast.

She has participated in DST winter clothing drives and a voting initiative. She also was inducted into Lincoln's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma national scholar-athlete society class. Brown is also a two-time Church Mutual 'Protecting the Greater Good' honoree.
