LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - The Lincoln University women's basketball plans on jumping into the deep end with both feet to open the 2020-21 basketball campaign.
Its non-conference schedule will lack cupcakes and put the Lions to the immediate test as they will travel to face four Division I opponents to kick off the year.
"This year's non-conference schedule is a great test for us to see where we are early in the year," said Lincoln University head women's basketball coach Darrell Mosley. "In order to be the best you have to play and coach against some of the best. This will be by far the toughest schedule under my leadership that I have put together. Just trying to create memories and everlasting experiences for my team. Most importantly, it gives us some great competition leading into conference play and a sense of being battle-tested early. It will continue to keep Lincoln University on the map and give us the visibility that we certainly deserve."
Lincoln opens the season 5 p.m. November 25 with a road contest against George Washington. The Colonels are coming a 14-16 campaign.
Following a trip to Washington, D.C., the Lions face its stiffest competition of the season as they travel to #24 Syracuse 6 p.m. December 2. The Orange returns four starters and sport the fourth-ranked recruiting class in the country. It's a class that includes two-top 15 players. Syracuse comes into the season looking to reach its eighth straight trip to the NCAA tournament.
Next for Lincoln will be a trip to Saint Joseph's 2 p.m. December 13. The Hawks were 9-20 a season ago. The final Division I contest to open the season comes 5:30 p.m. December 16 at Delaware State. The Hornet finished last season at 12-18.
The first Division II game for the Lions will be on January 4 as Lincoln hosts Washington Adventist before stepping into Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action.
Lincoln is coming off a record-setting season as it was ranked nationally for the first time in the program's Division II history and established a school record with 23 victories.
