Johns honored by CIAA

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Lincoln University track and field student-athlete Kamani Johns (Chester, Pa./Chester) has been honored by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association for her work on the track, the league announced today (January 18, 2022).

Johns was named CIAA Food Lion Female Track Athlete of the Week for her work at the HBCU Showcase this past weekend.

"I am pleased with Kamani's consistent work effort this season," said Lincoln University head track and field coach Roland Whiting. "She is just scratching the surface of her potential, and I am looking forward to seeing her improvements as the season progresses."

She placed fifth overall in the 400m with a time of 58.23 at the HBCU Showcase, finishing as the top DII competitor in the event. The freshman f also ran a leg on the 4x400 meter relay team that finished sixth at the meet with a time of 4:08.96. Johns has the top 400m time in the CIAA this indoor season at 57.77. 

Johns is the first women's track and field student-athlete to receive the conference's weekly honor. While the Lions have had several women's track and field student-athletes earn the league's weekly field honors, Johns is the first since 2018 to pick up the track honors from the CIAA.

Lincoln returns to track Saturday at the Gotham Cup in Staten Island, N.Y.
