Lanier, Pollock lead WBB to win

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA  – For the second time in as many games, the Lincoln University women's basketball team turned to a set of reserves to turn the game around.

Junior Kania Pollock (Queens, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) and freshman Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) combined for 29 points off the bench as Lincoln knocked off Bowie State, 59-39, Saturday in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at AC Jordan Arena in Bowie, MD.

Lanier, who missed the previous two games, sparked a 12-0 run to cap the first quarter that enabled Lincoln to record a 10-point lead. Her three-pointer gave LU a lead it wouldn't relinquish and she had another three-pointer during the run. The point guard finished with career highs in points (14) and rebounds (seven).

Bowie State had a run in it as they pulled to within two with 4:05 remaining in the quarter. Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) stemmed the tide with a three-pointer, her only basket of the first half, enabling Lincoln to maintain its lead going into the locker room.

Lanier was at the forefront of Lincoln's offensive push to start the third quarter with a three-pointer and driving lay-up to extend the lead. The Lions put the game away with a 15-3 spurt that spanned the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters.

Pollock has reached double figures in three straight games since missing a pair of games before the break. She finished with 15 points and a season-high four rebounds in the victory.

Lincoln (11-4 overall, 4-1 CIAA) returns home for the first time in over a month, hosting Elizabeth City State 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
