Lincoln declaws Wildcats

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - For the first time in 10 games, the Lincoln University men's basketball team celebrated back-to-back wins as the Lions throttled Wilmington, 77-53, in non-conference action at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.

In those victories, the Lions were able to reach its defensive goal of holding teams to less than 60 points per game. It was the third time in which they achieved their stated goal, and the Lions won all three of those games.

Junior Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) led the team with 25 points on 12-of-19 shooting with six rebounds and two assists, while junior Alex Nunnally (Washington, D.C./Cesar Chavez Parkside) came off the bench for his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) added 10 points, and freshman Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) – making his first career start – dished out a career-high eight assists. The eight dimes were the most by any Lincoln player this season.

Lincoln started the game with a lob dunk to Blue and didn't trail for the entire game. In fact, the Lions scored the first seven points, capped by a dunk from freshman Janaie Coates (Newark, N.J./University), and Wilmington was left searching for solutions with a 30-second timeout.

The pair of dunks was just a harbinger of what was to come as Lincoln punished the Wildcats zone for 50 points in the paint. Lincoln had more first-half points in the paint (28) than Wilmington had in the entire game (22).

Wilmington quickly responded with six consecutive points, however, LU answered with eight straight points to stem the tide. Lincoln capped the half with a 16-6 run to take a 12-point advantage.

A 22-4 run, in which six different players scored, pushed the Orange and Blue lead to a game-high 33 points.

Lincoln (6-4) travels to Southern Connecticut State 1 p.m. Sunday in non-conference action.
