Lincoln University, Pa. – Three Lincoln University staff members learned a new trauma-informed sexual assault investigation and adjudication curriculum as part of the inaugural National Center for Campus Public Safety conference in Washington, D.C.
The July conference provided college and university administrators and their local partners involved in sexual misconduct and gender-based violence investigation and adjudication. “Trauma-informed” investigations consider the physical, psychological and emotional safety of the survivor.
Stephen Madonna, police corporal and criminal investigator; Gerard Garlic; Title IX Coordinator and certified civil rights investigation; and Katelyn Duca, police officer; learned the trauma-informed sexual assault investigation and adjudication curriculum at a July conference in Washington, D.C.
Attendees included Gerard Garlic, Title IX coordinator and certified civil rights investigator; Stephen Madonna, police corporal and criminal investigator; and Katelyn Duca, police officer.
“The conference was informative and educational in order for us to be current with best practices,” Garlic said.
The curriculum also included an overview of Title IX and the Clery Act. The participants learned about the impact of language, the effects of trauma, how to interview the complainant, investigative strategies, and report writing and assessment.
