Lions Net 111 Points

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – For the first time since the 2012-13 season, the Lincoln University men's basketball team opened the season with two consecutive wins by virtue of its 111-92 non-conference victory over Bluefield State College Monday.

Three different players scored at least 20 points, led by junior sharpshooter Bernard Lightsey's (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) 24 points. The prolific scorer was 8-of-13 from the floor, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc.

Junior point guard Korey Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) (Brooklyn, NY/LaSalle Academy) added 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while junior Ja'Zere Noel (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) added 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting and three rebounds.

Lightsey's bucket with 17:44 remaining gave Lincoln the 6-5 lead, and the Lions didn't trail for the rest of the game. The basket jumpstarted a 13-2 run that game LU its first double-figure lead of the game. A 17-4 spurt pushed the lead to 23 points with four minutes remaining in the contest. The lead would eventually push to 24 points.

However, the home team tallied nine of the last 11 points to pull to within 15 at the break. The run extended to 15-2 as the second half began to get the deficit under double figures.

Lincoln responded as four different players found the scorebook during an 11-4 spurt, and the lead was back to double figures for the rest of the game.

Lincoln (2-0) travels to Morgan State 6 p.m. December 1 for another non-conference match-up.
