Rasheed named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – For the second time this season, a Lincoln University softball player has been honored by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the league announced today (April 4, 2022).

Freshman MacKienzee Rasheed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) was named the Coca-Cola CIAA Defensive Player of the Week after four errorless games. Rasheed, who spent most of the season in the outfield, played third base and then was forced into emergency action behind the plate.

"We are so fortunate to have MacKienzee," said Renee Clark, Lincoln University softball coach. "She is a talented student-athlete, who has a very high softball IQ and can play multiple positions. She did an amazing job behind the plate this weekend without any preparation."

For the first time this season, Rasheed started games at third base and finished with four putouts and two assists in the doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom. An injury in the third inning of the opening game of the Bowie State doubleheader moved Rasheed to behind the plate. She had seven putouts and an assist against BSU.

Offensively, she had a career day against GBC, going 5-of-7 with a double, two home runs, two runs scored and four RBI to lead the Lions.

Lincoln returns to action noon Saturday, traveling to Virginia State for a CIAA doubleheader.
