Richardson named CIAA Rookie of the Week

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced its weekly softball honors, and a Lincoln University freshman became the first LU softball player to pick up conference recognition.

Freshman Irlynn Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) was named CIAA Rookie of the Week after hitting .411 (7-of-17) with three doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.

"You can start to see Irlynn becoming more comfortable in the leadoff role," said Renee Clarke, Lincoln University head softball coach. "Her ability at the top of the lineup is beginning to be a catalyst for greater offensive production."

It marks the second time ever an LU softball player has earned the weekly rookie award from the conference, and just the fourth Lincoln softball player to be honored by the CIAA.

Lincoln opens CIAA action 12:30 p.m. Thursday against Claflin at the CIAA Round-up in Raleigh, N.C.
