Softball drops single game to GBC

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - The Lincoln University softball team completed the regular season portion of its schedule with a 14-1 loss to Goldey-Beacom in non-conference action at the LU Softball Complex.

Freshman Simone Hanner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) tallied LU's lone run in the bottom of the fifth. She opened the frame with a bunt single and moved to second on an error. A groundout moved her to third and then she scored on a wild pitch.

Goldey-Beacom opened the game with seven runs in the first inning, added three runs in the second and capped the scoring with four runs in the third inning.

Five other Lions – freshman Irlynn Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), freshman Jarae Turner, freshman Kevyn Jones (Baltimore, Md./Paul Laurence Dunbar), freshman Cate Liskey (Richland, Pa./Eastern Lebanon ), and freshman Cailyn Dove (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck Senior) – all recorded hits for the Lions. Dove and Turner registered doubles.

Freshman Tia Brown (Newark, N.Y./Newark) allowed seven runs – four earned – on six hits with two walks in an inning. Liskey went four innings in the circle, allowing seven runs – six earned – on 11 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Lincoln now awaits its postseason fate as Fayetteville State needs to beat Johnson C. Smith twice Friday to qualify for the CIAA Tournament.
