Softball swept by VUU

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – The Lincoln University softball team dropped a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader to Virginia Union in Richmond, VA on Sunday.

GAME ONE: VIRGINIA UNION 9, LINCOLN 1
Virginia Union tallied five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the 9-1 victory.

Freshman MacKienzee Rasheed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) brought home the lone run with an RBI groundout in the sixth inning, scoring freshman Irlynn Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills).

Freshmen Jarae Turner and Jasmine Solis (Fontana, Calif./Summit) recorded the two LU hits on the day.

In the circle, freshman Tia Brown (Newark, N.Y./Newark) allowed three runs – two earned – in four innings of work with five hits. She added four strikeouts with three walks.

GAME TWO: VIRGINIA UNION 19, LINCOLN 1
Three different players – Turner, Richardson and freshman Kevyn Jones (Baltimore, Md./Paul Laurence Dunbar) – recorded hits in the loss.

Turner scored the only run after singling in the fourth and coming home on an error.

Brown took the loss, allowing seven runs in one inning on seven hits.

Lincoln begins a stretch of eight home games in six days to end the regular season with a doubleheader with Holy Family 3:30 p.m. April 19.
