University Announces New Student Communications

The Office of Student Affairs, in coordination with the Office of Communications and Public Relations, is unveiling a new, campus-wide, student-centered communication tool: the Student Wire. This email service is sent to all undergraduate and graduate students every weekday when the university is open. It will contain brief campus news, events, notices, and reminders.

The goal of the Student Wire is to provide an efficient (reduce the number of emails in your inbox), effective (sent daily, open to all employees) and uniform (clean, easy to read, concise, edited) mechanism for departments to communicate to students.  All undergraduate and graduate students will receive a single email -- the Student Wire -- at 10 a.m. or thereabouts, with campus announcements.  Any staff or faculty members with announcements for students may submit items using the webform, which is the preferred method. Items can also be emailed to studentwire@lincoln.edu

Example items could include: student centered career/internship/mentorship opportunities; student events that employees should be aware of; Public Safety updates and parking notices; important deadline dates; extended or special hours for library, Wellness Center, cafeteria; special events and convocations; departmental updates relevant to a wide audience.

The Student Wire replaces nearly all “all-lincoln-undergraduate,” “all-lincoln-graduate” emails; special permission for exceptions will be granted by the associate vice president in communications or the president for special circumstances or emergencies and as previously discussed with specific departments.

To receive full consideration, items must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. the day prior to the requested publication date; late submissions will be accommodated whenever possible but cannot be guaranteed. If no content is submitted for a given day, no Student Wire will be sent.

Sandy Sweet is the manager of the Student Wire; all questions can be directed to her at studentwire@lincoln.edu.
