WBB Previews: GCU & Bloomfield

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - The Lincoln University women's basketball team has back-to-back games this weekend, starting with a 6 p.m. game Friday at Georgian Court. The Lions turn back around for a 2 p.m. home game Saturday with Bloomfield.

SERIES HISTORY
Lincoln has claimed all four meetings with Georgian Court, however, the teams have not met on the hardwood since 2014.

SERIES HISTORY II
After winning the first meeting in the 2016-17 season, Lincoln has dropped the last two games with Bloomfield, including a 74-64 loss in their last meeting during the 2018-19 season. 

I BRY-LIEVE
Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin), a career 1,000-point scorer, is second in the CIAA with 14.9 points per game. She leads the conference, making 87.2 percent (41-of-41) of her free throws this season. She is also fourth in the CIAA with 1.8 three-pointers per game.

Coming into the season, the guard was named preseason All-CIAA as a backcourt selection in the conference vote of head coaches and sports information personnel.  

HIGH POWERED OFFENSE
The Lions are second in the CIAA with 70.5 points per game, trailing leader Fayetteville State (71.0). Lincoln is fourth in scoring margin at plus-7.2. LU is one of five CIAA schools with a positive scoring margin. 

FROM DOWNTOWN
Lincoln leads the conference with 5.5 three-pointers per game and 44 total three-pointers. 

VARIABLE STARTERS
The starting five of Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic)Joy Morton (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood)Kania Pollock (Queens, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy)Shantel Cheeks (Washington D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy (Harcum College)), and Krysell Gordy was the sixth different starting lineup in eight games for the Lions. Fifth-year seniors Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and Joy Morton (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) have started seven of those eight games. 

Three different players - Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep)Jade Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends School), and Lanier - have all started at point guard this season. 

DROPPING DIMES
Junior Jade Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends School) has been a settling force for the Lincoln offense mainly off the bench this season. She is sixth in the CIAA with 2.9 assists per game. 

HITTING THE GLASS
Lincoln is coming off a season-high 28 offensive rebounds in the loss to Jefferson. The 28 offensive rebounds only resulted in 12 second-chance points. It was the third time this season the Lions registered at least 25 offensive rebounds. However, Lincoln is 1-2 in those contests.

SCOUTING GEORGIAN COURT
The Lions come in Friday's game on a four-game losing streak after losing to Holy Family Tuesday, 72-61. Georgian Court is 0-2 on its home court.

Sophomore guard Anyssa Fields is the straw that stirs the proverbial drink with 21.7 points per game on 39.4 percent (54-of-137) shooting. Her 17 three-pointers on 37.8 percent (17-of-45) shooting are both team highs. She is also tied for the team lead with 8.3 rebounds.

Freshman Erika Aspajo leads the team with 32 assists and 19 steals while being second on the team with 14.8 points.

SCOUTING BLOOMFIELD
The Bears are coming into the game 2-6, but have won two of their last four games, including a 63-61 win over the University of District of Columbia. It's the lone common opponent between the two teams. Bloomfield is being outscored by more than nine points per game this season.

Redshirt junior DaShanique Ruffin is averaging a double-double with 11.5 points and 10.3 rebounds, both team highs. She is also leading the team with 12 blocks. Forward Jaylah Bennett is second on the team with 9.9 points and has accounted for 54.1 percent (13-of-24) of the team's made three-pointers.

Junior guard Tanazha Ford and freshman Taneshia Tucker are accounting for nearly half of the team's 103 assists.
