Young records double-double in blowout win

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - The memories of the last time Lincoln and Winston-Salem hooked up on the hardwood still lingers in the minds of those Lions that walked off the court at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) tournament in 2019.

It served as rocket fuel as Lincoln throttled the Rams Saturday, 82-55, in CIAA regular-season action at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.

The Lions put the outcome in doubt with a 27-0 run during a nine-minute stretch that spanned the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter. Once the debilitating spurt was over, LU led by 30.

Fifth-year senior Joy Morton (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) led the way with 10 points as six different Lions scored in the run.

Despite finally finding the bottom of the net, WSSU took a 35-point deficit into the locker room.

Every person that touched the court for the Lions found the scorebook as Lincoln's advantage ballooned to as much as 40 points.

Junior Jade Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends School) recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) led the way with 18 points and five rebounds with two assists, and Morton added 17 points with three rebounds and two steals.

Freshman Ciani Montgomery (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) came off the bench for 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Lincoln (9-3 overall, 2-0 CIAA) hosts Livingstone (2-7 overall, 1-0 CIAA) 5:30 p.m. Monday in conference action.
