Institutional Animal & Care Use Committee (IACUC)

The LUIRB oversees the IACUC.  Members of IACUC will be appointed from the IRB Committee as stipulated with the Federal guidance and regulations.

The IACUC courses will be taken from the CITI PROGRAM online courses which include: Animal and Care Use(ACU).

The ACU series covers general principles of the ethical care and use of animals in research, training, and testing. It is designed to meet U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) requirements for basic training in the humane care and use of animals.

Courses within the ACU series are designed to help investigators and IACUC members work more productively. Additional courses are designed for IACUC chairs, IACUC community members, and institutional officials (IOs), as well as individuals seeking training on aseptic surgery, post-procedure care, post-approval monitoring, and wildlife research.

Animal-specific courses focus on research involving amphibians, cats, cattle, dogs, ferrets, fish, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, horses, mice, non-human primates, rabbits, rats, reptiles, sheep and goats, swine, and zebrafish. Read more: IACUC CITI program manual
